For me, having a black history month is an opportunity to reclaim our identity. For many centuries, we have been prohibited to be ourselves, to live by and for ourselves. We’ve been robbed of everything meaningful aspects of our identity. We’ve been put on surviving mode that creates a fake identity spread around the world and through many generations. We’ve been taught that we are lazy, worthless, and ugly while being used to building other nations, and recognition has been denied.
Now that we are in the process of reclaiming our soul, we should use Black History Month to remind the world that we were the beginning of humanity, we gave life to this world, and everything included. It’s an opportunity to correct history and let them know that we represent intelligence, strength, courage, and resilience.
